Buying a Camera

Cameras are a common device that most people are used to. We have one, two, or more cameras in the smartphone but they are also limited in application and not all of our activities will be conveniently done on the smartphone. Depending on the application, our choice for the camera will be different as well so it is best to get one that fits in your activity. In addition, we may have different budgets or how many you want to spend for the device.

For stills or photos, the ideal choice is digital cameras like mirrorless or DSLRs because these types of cameras are optimized for capturing still images. They often come with cropped sensors or full-size depending on the need but the best part is that you can tailor the camera to suit the scenery or the way you want to take the photos. In most cases the professional and enthusiast options are also ILC means we can try different lenses to match with how you want to capture the image.

Next is for video recording which is actually also possible with mirrorless or DSLR based on the type of recording you will be doing. For a fairly still subject like interview or recording events and personal content, they are equally reliable. On the other hand if your activity requires lots of movement, the action camera such as Sony HDR AS50 Vs GoPro Hero 5 will be the better choice because they are compact and have reliable image stabilization.

In some cases the device can be versatile as well, such as the Lumix GH5 which is more popular as a video camera but is also good for taking stills. On the other hand action cameras and smaller digital cameras can capture still images as well but there is certainly limitation to how they produce the result. If you need a camera that is more specific for video recording, a camcorder is usually best when it comes to video shooting, as long as there is not much movement involved.

Besides the ergonomics which are clearly designed to improve the ease of use and application, they are also packed with the ideal functionalities and features for video recording such as a long range zoom when you need to get close to an object while recording. Depending on the applications, our choice will vary so rather than getting the best camera that is available in the market, it is wise to choose based on the usage.

About AKASO Brave 7 LE and GoPro Hero 9

Now when you are ready to shop for the camera, it is time to see what the market has to offer. There are more than plenty to choose from based on the brand, price point, as well as the camera’s overall ability and the focus of the device. If you are here then we assume that the camera is meant for video recording and for action purposes or sport. Action camera is the perfect option for this purpose and it is also quite versatile for a wide range of users.

Just like most products, you will find the most popular or well-known option and their more affordable alternatives. The same with action cameras because while GoPro is like the synonym for action camera, there are tons of other good cameras out there based on which seems to attract you the most, such as AKASO which is affordable and surprisingly capable as well when it comes to video quality. However, the flagship from both companies are not going to be the same.

Currently the most interesting offerings from both companies are AKASO Brave 7 LE and GoPro Hero 9 which are loved by many for their image quality. It is even difficult to find the Brave 7 LE because of how popular this camera is, moreover with the low price point. As for Hero 9, this camera is now cheaper too, compared to when it was first launched but AKASO is still much cheaper in comparison. Both cameras are equally reliable but are not the same.

Especially for the image quality, they are not exactly the same or identical but of course the Brave 7 LE will be inferior in comparison. However, the level of detail may not be as important for all users if you want to spend more than twice the budget which you can save by going for AKASO. If image quality is a must and you just want the best, GoPro is the choice but for casual users who are not really paying attention to the details we do think Brave 7 LE is an impressive camera for the pocket.

AKASO Brave 7 LE and GoPro Hero 9 Design

Before checking what AKASO Brave 7 LE and GoPro Hero 9 can offer, let’s see the camera first and surprisingly, both are also quite similar. The similarity is noticeable with the addition of a small screen at the front of the camera near the lens. The form factor of both cameras are also the same while the lens cover is what sets the two apart prominently as we know that GoPro has a square cover while the Brave 7 LE is round.

The front screen is also in color which means you can use it to view the footage while doing a self-recording. The cameras are well-built and just like most Hero models, the Hero 9 is already waterproof out of the box meaning there is no need to use a waterproof case. It is rated at 33 feet and surprisingly, the Brave 7 LE is also waterproof but only up to 3 feet so if you are diving or plan to wear one while submerging, we will need the waterproof case.

AKASO Brave 7 LE and GoPro Hero 9 Specs

Now let’s see what AKASO Brave 7 LE and GoPro Hero 9 can offer starting from the basic spec first which is the recording resolution and is also the one that sets the two apart the most. Brave 7 LE is actually really good for the price point as it is a full 4K and this is not an interpolation as well yet, the Hero 9 is a 5K camera so side by side you definitely can tell the difference. At the top resolution or 4K and 5K respectively, both cameras are recording equally at 30fps.

But, if you choose the 4K setting on Hero 9, we can already recording at 60fps or if you lower it any further to 2.7K we can record at 120fps while on Brave 7 LE you will need to change into 1080p to achieve the same speed. Another difference is in their field of view because our personal complaint is that Brave 7 LE is quite narrow compared to Hero 9 so if you are recording side by side, the object from AKASO will look closer compared to GoPro.

AKASO Brave 7 LE and GoPro Hero 9 Image Quality

Next is for the image quality because AKASO Brave 7 LE and GoPro Hero 9 are also different here. You can see how they differ on the details as contrasts are also different. It may be personal preference but the color looks livelier from the Hero 9 while the Brave 7 LE is slightly paler. GoPro is known to add quite a higher contrast in their camera but this also makes the footage more popping. If you will be pixel peeping, the Hero 9 is surely the one with more pleasing details.

On the image stabilization, we do like both AKASO Brave 7 LE and GoPro Hero 9 for their amazing result but Hero 9 is more stable. The difference is not that much considering AKASO is much cheaper but it is still noticeable especially when you are walking because the footage is shakier.

AKASO Brave 7 LE and GoPro Hero 9 Microphone

Lastly we want to talk about the microphone quality from these cameras because most people will probably use them for self-recording and while talking to the camera as well. The comparison also shows that Hero 9 is better but the Brave 7 LE is not bad at all. The audio is much cleaner compared to the previous AKASO cameras but there is still wind noise captured while the Hero 9 is very clean. We do think both are useful however even when you don’t use an external microphone.

Akaso Brave 7 Le vs Gopro Hero 9

There are so many good action cameras out there such as AKASO Brave 7 LE and GoPro Hero 9 that are similar but also different. From the image quality, image stabilization, and microphone they are already quite different but it doesn’t make Brave 7 LE a bad choice at all. In fact we are surprised to see the level of quality they can put in this camera. The 4K clarity and detail is quite good, the stabilization is better from the previous cameras, while the audio quality is still useful.

Conclusion

Depending on what you are chasing, our choice may vary. If image quality and audio or stabilization need to be at the top of the game, Hero 9 or even Hero 8 are perfect choices but if you can compromise a bit, we do think Brave 7 LE is a really good camera for the price point.
