Action Camera

Camera seems like an inseparable tool in modern days because you bring them everywhere and the convenience of memorizing everything without bothering to save them in your short term memory or taking a note is one of our favorite functions. Surely people can use their camera for various applications and purposes but besides the one planted in our smartphone, it is probably better to have a dedicated one to work in tandem with your smart device thus, we don’t have to worry about the draining battery anymore.

Mirrorless and DSLR are what professional photography and enthusiasts are going for but for us casual users who just want to snap a picture and record something interesting during the journey, they are very expensive, not to mention the fragile body and possible maintenance. If this sounds like you then aiming for an action camera is probably wiser. This device indeed was meant for sport application but today everyone can benefit from them as they are the most convenient to use.

Action camera best quality is how they can be installed or mounted on different platforms thus, allowing it to capture images from difficult angles to give you those unique points of view which are difficult to capture using a camcorder or regular camera. They also work hand in hand with your smartphone to allow you to have a better view and control the device from afar, offering a freedom on what you can capture and how to capture right on your hand.

For image quality however, in most cases they can’t compete with high-end camcorders or even Mirrorless and DSLR for there is limitation in what we can compile in such a small box. For shot and recording done under natural light they are most likely turn out good but this also depends on their capacity as well because affordable versus expensive cameras like Crosstour CT9000 Vs GoPro will have very different footage as well. Besides the better built quality, high-end units usually have much better stabilization.

Both are good options but for different people and personally, if you are only looking for one to bring along to vacation or record your memories of places and activities, almost any affordable below $100 cameras will do their job really well. Those who often go with the expensive model besides will put the unit in heavier use also often want the plethora of features they have. In addition, while night recording is always a challenge, brands like GoPro and DJI will most likely produce much better footage.

About APEMAN A80 and A79

Just like everything else, the best option is always the one that fits in your application and pocket. Action camera doesn’t need to be expensive because many alternatives are getting better at offering a more reliable performance. If you are here then it means an inexpensive model is what you look for and today, there are tons of good brands to choose from. These brands may not widely known like GoPro but as long as they work well, name should not matter.

You can browse from the bestselling action camera category or see what your friends and family are using but speaking about good GoPro alternatives, you can’t leave APEMAN from the list. This brand is offering lots of affordable action cameras that you can buy without having to think too much because while they are not as costly, their image quality is actually not bad at all, and probably can be considered amazing for the price point. You can’t compare it to DJI or GoPro but you get a great option with a fracture of their costs.

They do carry several popular units in the line but those below $100 are very interesting to see and if you also have the same budget range then APEMAN A80 and A79 will be two ideal choices to take a look at. Both of them are very much the same to each other and we are also curious why they don’t just make the A80 from the start if it is only slightly better than the former. Their price difference seems to justify this upgrade but you may have a different opinion.

As the name suggests APEMAN A80 and A79 are two siblings and they are very much the same to each other which is why it is not surprising to see some are confused about which is which and what model to buy. As the improvement of the earlier model. A80 seems to bring a certain improvement which is not going to make the two like night and day different but surely a welcomed upgrade we all need.

APEMAN A80 and A79 Design

If you remember how action cameras used to look like when they were just trending as a hot item, this is what these cameras are designed to resemble too. They still have this textured side which is now gone from big names as they move to smoother and more modern finish but it is not an issue and while their built quality is not the best, APEMAN A80 and A79 are very robust in your grip. What’s different is now A80 removes the circle around its lens.

It also adds a slightly elevated surface into the power button panel which probably meant to improve the comfort but overall, the designs are still the same. The rest of the components seem to be the same as well with the 2-inch LCD screen on their rear panel but as you can expect this is not touch-sensitive yet, the resolution is quite good and you can still see them under bright sunlight. What we love the most is that you receive everything in the box.

APEMAN A80 and A79 Image Quality

The first thing you may want to know when looking for a camera must be their image quality and it is decided by their component too. APEMAN A80 and A79 are claimed to have Sony sensors in which the model we are not well-informed but they seem to be the same sensor and there is no upgrade in recording mode as well. At the top capacity they can record 4K at 24 frames per second but as you can already expect, this is an interpolated resolution.

The original resolution of their 4K is actually taken at 2.7K and using 24Megabits per second data rate which is of course slow for this high resolution image and this is probably why a 18Gb storage will most likely do well in any of these models. More people seem to use their 1080p option because this should be the best they can offer and can already capture at 60 fps as well. For the still image they use the 20MP resolution to capture clear pictures.

APEMAN A80 and A79 Performance

Moving to the performance, APEMAN A80 and A79 are doing a really good job because for the price point, the footage is nice enough to enjoy and we personally prefer their 1080p instead for overall better video. There are plenty of details but not as much as what you can find in for example Hero 8 yet, the latter is 4 times pricier too. They have a popping color and overall pleasant to see especially when shooting under natural light.

What’s different is their image stabilization because this technology is most useful in an action camera than in any other type of camera for the nature of their common application. They are nowhere near HyperSmooth by GoPro but the A80 seems to just slightly have better image stabilization which is smoother in comparison to A79 but the difference is not like night and day yet, still better than the previous one.

APEMAN A80 and A79 Features

The last part let’s see what additional features APEMAN A80 and A79 can offer and just like most action cameras, they are wide angle at 170 degree which can be adjusted to be narrower to suit your preference. They have Wi-Fi function and remote to control the unit from a distance as well as water proof with the casing but, what’s surprising is the A80 has no option to add external microphone which was previously available in A79.

APEMAN A80 vs A79

APEMAN A80 and A79 are great options for the budget because they are very affordable and work reliably. The image quality is not amazing and the stabilization is useful but not very reliable yet for less than $100 these two are already an equally good option. The difference is on the A80 improved image stabilization but somehow it comes by scarifying the external mic connection.

Conclusion

You can choose any of them based on which seems to fit your preference the most. We do like the new stabilization in A80 and for audio recording we can use a separate microphone to capture the better audio quality so if we have to choose, the newer model is a better option between the two.
