Dedicated Cameras

Camera seems to be an inseparable device from almost everyone’s life now. Whenever you open social media, we can see self-pictures of our friends or family, their menus today, the pet, beautiful scenery taken from wonderful places, news about the current events, etc. These pictures can be professionally taken or casually done by individuals who want to share their experience or story on the platform. Smartphone cameras are the most convenient option when it comes to such applications, however, dedicated cameras are often much better.

We are not talking about DSLRs or mirrorless cameras but handheld cameras, handycam, or action cameras. This type of compact cameras are emerging along with the increased internet usage and websites or social media that are designed to show you the various content its users are uploading. This is a very promising hobby that can produce income as well which is why the casual application can shift into the more professional range very quickly. Just like how drones were seen as toys, they are very useful tools nowadays.

Compact cameras are more capable at certain categories in which one of them is freeing your smartphone from being the main device. This way we are free to use the smartphone for other purposes, especially communication while the camera is recording something. It is also saving battery life because recording apparently consumes quite a lot of power. If you are a sport enthusiast, recording with a dedicated camera is safer too because we never know what will happen during the activity.

Smartphone cameras are very much improved today that the flagship phones can boast an incredible recording quality including 8K and extra-long zoom which can even peek into the window of an apartment located quite further from yours. However, they are often not as practical and using them for the main activity means we have to sacrifice the amount of time to use the phone. Having a dedicated camera, even an affordable one is overall more convenient if you often take pictures or record videos.

In addition, depending on the type of recording or application that you want to do, some cameras are more unique such as with an extra-wide angle or even a full 360 view such as the Insta360 One X2 Vs One X. In a 360 content we can navigate inside the picture and get a full view of the surroundings. For sport and travel application, dedicated cameras including action cameras will have superior stabilization too that improve the quality of footage you will be recording.

About Insta360 Go 2 and DJI Pocket 2

If you are also currently considering buying a dedicated camera, it is great to also consider what you will need from the device. Size wise many of them are even smaller than typical action cameras today so it should not be an issue for most of us. Do think about how you will use the device whether it is more on a fixed setup or you have hold it all the time. In addition, budget is probably a good start to select the options.

Compact, travel friendly cameras are available from a wide range of manufacturers, GoPro for example. This company has been around for quite some time and one of the best when it comes to compact, sport or action cameras. But, you can have many other alternatives or similarly great choices such as the Insta360 and DJI. Most people are probably familiar with the two as a 360 camera brand and a drone company respectively but they do make various compact cameras that are more versatile.

The Insta360 Go 2 and DJI Pocket 2 are two very popular cameras with promising abilities. One is an extremely compact action camera that improves the usability and versatility while the latter is something you will want to rely on when shooting handheld all the time. They are similarly capable but clearly made for different people. We can use them in the same type of situation but with different experiences and we do not think everyone can match with how these cameras are used.

For example, the Insta360 Go which is one of the smallest or probably the smallest action cameras we have seen. This camera boasts its extremely lightweight and petite form that improve the way people can record with the device, making it more convenient yet also creative at the same time. Pocket 2 is a handheld, this camera boasts the gimbal built-in the device so it is more of a gimbal + camera setup in one device which of course will be superb when it comes to vlogging.

Insta360 Go 2 and DJI Pocket 2 Design

Now let’s see the unit because Insta360 Go 2 and DJI Pocket 2 are pretty much different from each other. The most fascinating things about Go 2 is the size and yes, this camera on its own is only 2.1-inch but there case is here to increase the length into 5.2-inch when opened. We can record with the camera only or with the charging case but since the charging case also acts as a remote and stand, it is much more convenient to use them together.

The DJI Pocket 2 is very much the same as the original variant including the design and material. It is very light but noticeably bigger than the Go 2 at 4.9-inch and weighing only 117 grams so if you have a deep pocket we can just slip it inside. The camera has a very simple control but at least you get a small display as well here which means we can do monitoring directly from the camera itself; we can choose settings through this touch-sensitive display as well.

Insta360 Go 2 and DJI Pocket 2 Specs

Moving further, let’s see what the Insta360 Go 2 and DJI Pocket 2 can offer starting from the recording ability. The Pocket 2 highest resolution is 4K and this mode can already record at 60fps as well so it is still useful for shooting slow-motion but, if you prefer the cinematic view, we can find a 24fps setting too on all of the recording modes. On the other hand, Go 2’s highest resolution is 1440p and can record up to 50fps.

Insta360 Go 2 and DJI Pocket 2 Image Quality

The quality or more about crispness of the image quality will be noticeably different. Go 2 is not a cheap camera and at the same price point most cameras can do 4K easily and at high frame rates as well so this can be a drawback if you will want to record in UHD. The 1440p is actually very good, personally we have no issue as it looks pretty, the color is nicely produced but when you move it to the larger screen it may not be as mesmerizing as the higher resolution.

Since these compact cameras are mostly used outdoors, let’s see the stabilization of Insta360 Go 2 and DJI Pocket 2. In this part the best thing about having a gimbal is the footage will always be stabilized while in Go 2 you have to use the Pro Mode because it has several recordings including normal which is not stabilized. Side by side they are amazing, very smooth and working really good for example when used in handheld mode as you walk or run.

Insta360 Go 2 and DJI Pocket 2 Mount

The issue with Pocket 2 is probably when it comes to mounting itself because this camera is designed as a vlogging styled device so it is optimized for handheld while with the Go 2 the option is almost limitless; you can even use a strap or lace and chain then wearing it on your body. The back of the camera is also magnetic so as long as there is some metal surface around you, we can just put the camera there and start recording, no need to use a stick or tripod.

Insta360 Go 2 and DJI Pocket 2 Features

Additionally, what makes the Insta360 Go 2 and DJI Pocket 2 very different is the features inside. Of course you can find time lapse or recording slow motion video with both cameras but DJI also put autofocus here which is accessible from the app in your phone. This feature lets you decide a box on the screen and the camera will continuously keep it centered even as you for example move around the subject. This camera can also take panoramic photos automatically, including stitching the photos together.

Insta360 GO 2 vs DJI Pocket 2

The Insta360 Go 2 and DJI Pocket 2 are different cameras made for different types of users. We do think the Go 2 is more of an action camera which you will want to mount on something or wear while doing the activity but Pocket Go 2 is a vlogging camera that is also impressive for taking photos with its 16/64MB high-resolution sensor. It is best for handheld and has lots of fancy features to improve your footage.

Conclusion

The choice is all yours but we do think it is wise to consider how you will want to use the camera. If your application required the camera to be mounted somewhere then the Go 2 is the choice but if you are using this to film your travel journey or vlogging, the Pocket 2 is the ideal camera to have. You can also improve the application by getting different mounts.
