Safety is currently the issue that everybody is concerned about, we find ways to prevent threatening events that may happen. One of the ways to feel secure is by checking of what’s happening at least in our own home. Surveillance cameras are one of the gadgets that is can help us see our house when we are not around.
IP camera is the commonly used type because it receives control data and sends image data via Internet. Xiaomi offers quality yet inexpensive IP cameras. The Xiaomi Xiaofang and Xiaomi Dafang IP cameras are the latest that Xiaomi offers. Let us see the comparison between these two types.
Design & Appearance
Both of these types have a rectangular shape this makes them both stand out from the common round IP cameras.
The Xiaomi Xiaofang size is only 5.6 X 5 X 5 CM, and has a lightweight of 100g. The lightweight of Xiaofang can be an advantage or disadvantage, an advantage because you can move it around easily but a disadvantage if someone unauthorized comes to your home and move it easily.
This small square camera sits on a folding bracket which has a magnet under it, makes it easy to be attached on any metal surface. An USB port and charging port is available on the back of this camera.
The USB port has a function of charging other gadget or just sticks in an USB flash disc as storage.
Its successor Xiaomi Dafang comes in a bigger size with 12.7 X 6 X 6 CM, and has a weight of 249g. Dafang can rotate 360 degrees since it sits on a small rotating circular. On the back you will see an USB port, the charging port will be found at the rotating base.

Night vision is also one of the features that are needed in a surveillance camera. Compared to its predecessor Xiaomi Dafang has a better night vision which has more advanced night time coverage and ultra-clear vision thanks to its six 940nm infrared LEDs, where Xiaofang only has 2 850nm LEDs.
Besides the quality video and image, both of these devices offer a wide angle view of your property. Xiaofang has a lens angle of 110 degrees, whereas Dafang has 120 degrees .
An addition to ensure you when you are away from your house, the Xiaofang and Dafang offer a two-way audio that add its function as an intercom beside being just a normal camera. A two-way audio is a great feature so that we can communicate with anybody that is at home or to warn threats when the house is entered by people without authorization.
Major improvement on the two-way audio of the Xiaomi Dafang, you will be able to hear within 10 meter of your property and can communicate with other in this distance since it has a built-in microphone with Xiaomi xiaofang.
Just like many IP cameras these two also has a motion detector but beside that it also offers sound, smoke and CO detection. A notification will be sent if any motion, sound, smoke and CO detection are triggered.
Dafang has a function of Intelligent Detection: the camera’s gimbal can automatically track and monitor your home and mark objects in the Green Frame. There is also a PIP mode which allows you to monitor on your phone while doing other tasks.
With all the features that have been mentioned, we can’t say that these two types can fulfill your expectation. There are disadvantages that can be found, such as storage. Just like most Xiaomi devices it connects through and app that saves all your video and images in the cloud.
For some people this is a good feature, but for others saving it through a micro SD or flash disc is the best way. For Xiaomi it may need a good internet connection to keep recording footage, which it won’t continue automatically to be saved in other kind of storage.
The range of sensors that Xiaomi offers sometimes are not fast enough so it will not send you notification in real time if there are still motion.
If you are looking for a classic design Xiaomi Xiaofang is your choice of camera, with its small size and the entire feature that it offers it can fulfill your needs of an IP camera. With the Xiaomi Dafang, you absolutely have an upgrade in the set of features, and it’s more modern and stylish design.
Both of them can be efficiently accessed with the Mi Home app then you are able to control them remotely just from your smartphone when you are outside of your home.
For its inexpensive price you can’t have a high expectation for these two devices, it is better to look for better devices if you want a high security system.
With a tight budget, this is a good enough IP camera that can be set up in your home while you are away for an everyday work or out of town for a few days.
